FAQs
can anyone do a gong bath?
Gong baths are for anyone 13 years up. You do not need to have any experience of meditation. They are not recommended if you:
are sound sensitive or triggered by sound
are in the first three months of pregnancy (you are more sensitive to sound during this time)
have recently had a hip/joint operation with metal implants
have a serious heart condition or a pacemaker fitted
have severe mental health issues
you have sound induced epilepsy
have an ear infection or severe tinnitus
If you have any questions please contact Kat before booking.
what will a gong bath be like?
Most people lie down for a gong bath although if you would be more comfortable seated that can be arranged (please let Kat know). We will get you comfy and snug with blankets, props and cushions. You may wish to use an eye pillow. After some opening words and breathing exercises Kat will guide you into a relaxed state for you to be bathed in nurturing sound, vibration and frequencies which emanate from the gong, singing bowls and other instruments.
what benefits can i expect to see?
Sound vibrations induce a meditative state, slowing the mind and body down, sending out calm feelings so the body can release tension in the body and repair itself. Sound can help clear emotional and energetic blockages. Sound can help manage anxiety, low mood, fatigue, anger and fear. Every person will have their own experience.
How to prepare & what to bring?
Please wear comfortable clothes. Yoga mats and bolsters will be provided although you are welcome to use your own. Please bring a blanket. You may wish to bring an eye pillow, Kat will have a few spares if you do not have one or forget yours. You are welcome to bring crystals or other small possessions, a journal.
what gongs does kat use?
I use a range of mallets and ‘flumies‘ to create a range of sounds on the following handmade gongs:
38 inch Paiste Symphonic Gong which produces pleasant sweet harmonic sounds and is diverse in its range.
36 inch Paiste Pluto Gong which has a lot of depth and character. It can stir things up, help us explore darkness and feel lighter as a result, it stimulates change and rebirth. The Pluto gong can help reduce toxins and tissue damage. Pluto is tuned to note C2# and it’s frequency is 140.25Hz. Element = Water.
32 inch Paiste Mercury Gong which dispels confusion, reduces overthinking, promotes freedom of choice, activates mental clarity and throat chakra, aiding communication. Mercury is tuned to the note F and its frequency is 174.61Hz. Element = Water.
32 inch Paiste Chiron Gong is known as the “Wounded Healer”. It helps reveal and heal wounds that have been sustained, support to move forward with compassion, wisdom and strength to achieve our true destiny. Chiron is tuned to the note D# and its frequecy is 151.27Hz.
how have gongs helped kat?
I love trying new things. I first went to a sound bath in 2021 being curious about them. I was exhausted after working long hours supporting the pandemic response and like many needed to get out of the house. I was truly blown away by the relaxing and restorative sound of the gongs. I felt calm for the first time in ages and could literally feel stress leaving my body; I was hooked. Even more so when I first played them a few years later.
